Who publishes this comparison
Pass California publishes this site and sells its own app upgrade. This comparison uses the released app's verified features and the linked providers' public product and access information checked October 19, 2026. We have not tested their paid accounts for this comparison. It is a buying checklist, with provider claims attributed to their source, rather than a measured ranking of pass rates or question difficulty.
Buy help for the problem you actually have
If you cannot explain a concept, seek instruction and a worked example. If you know the rule but misapply it, seek scenarios with explanations of the alternatives. If you run out of time, use fresh mixed practice under a timer. Another large bank does not automatically solve any of those problems. Start with a small sample, review the reason for each miss and choose the format you can return to during a normal week.
Check coverage against DRE's seven-area salesperson outline. California uses an integrated licensing examination, so material advertised as “national and state” still needs to fit California law and procedure. The official format is 150 questions, three hours and at least 70% correct. A provider's readiness score or guarantee has its own terms and is not DRE approval of your preparation.
DRE: current California salesperson topics and weightsThree options, with different study formats
| Option | Study format | Access to check | Useful first check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pass California | California salesperson app with 1,708 original questions, 171 key terms and option-by-option feedback. The 166 trap questions are part of that total. | Free features plus a one-time Premium upgrade. Full 150-question exams require Premium. | Try free website explanations or the app's free features and inspect the current store offer. |
| PrepAgent | Its product page describes questions, videos, audio, flashcards and live or recorded webinars. | Its listed one-week, one-month and three-month access plans use one-time charges; the page says no automatic billing. | Check the California selection, sample teaching and current package inclusions. |
| CompuCram | Its California page describes vocabulary tools, a pre-assessment, practice tests, simulated exams and a readiness indicator. | The California product lists 180-day access. | Check the California salesperson product, sample workflow and guarantee conditions. |
Choose a lesson format that addresses your gap. Someone who wants live discussion may value a different package from someone who wants short phone sessions with saved corrections. This table does not establish that any provider produces a higher pass rate or reproduces the secure DRE bank.
Use one changed fact to judge an explanation
An explanation should help you answer a different question afterward. Suppose a question asks who promises repayment: the promissory note addresses that promise, while the deed of trust supplies security. Change the task to identifying the trustor and you now need the party's role, not a document name. A useful review explains why the closest wrong answer fails and what changed fact could make it relevant.
- Can you identify the rule and decisive fact without rereading the answer?
- Does the explanation address every choice or only name the correct one?
- Are California deadlines and exceptions sourced and current?
- Can you inspect a sample before committing to the paid access period?
Compare the total price over your likely study period
Pass California's reviewed standard US Premium price is $59.99, paid once. The current store checkout controls the price for your region, tax and any available offer. See the current Premium details before buying. Competitor discounts and package prices can change; use their linked checkout and access terms for the period you need.
A one-time charge can still expire after a fixed access period. Conversely, “lifetime” describes the product's stated access terms; it does not promise every future service, uninterrupted availability or a passing result. Check extension costs, renewal behavior, refund deadlines, account requirements and what happens if your exam is delayed. Read any guarantee before treating it as a reason to buy.
Test the exact task you need without a connection
The released Pass California app includes bundled questions, local study storage and cached Premium access. Sign-in, purchase or restore, updates and synchronization can still require internet. Before relying on offline study, complete setup, open your intended mode, then check that it starts and saves on your device without connectivity. A public web page, a mobile browser and a native app can have different offline behavior.
We have not established a blanket offline guarantee for the other providers' paid workflows. Ask about the exact lesson, test or media download you need. An audio download alone does not establish offline question-bank access.
Use one main resource, then add help for a named gap
Complete a learning and review loop before buying another bank. A second resource can help when you need a different explanation or fresh coverage of a specific weakness. It can also split attention and hide repeated errors behind a new score. Check whether your prelicense package already includes useful prep, and keep the course-completion requirement separate from examination practice.
The website's 25- and 50-question mocks remain free and separate from app account progress. Use them to inspect our approach. If phone study suits you, the download page explains the app and its free features before you decide about Premium.
Frequently asked questions
Which California exam prep resource should I choose?
Choose by your study gap, then inspect a sample. Look for current California coverage, explanations you can apply to changed facts, useful mixed practice and access that lasts for your likely preparation period. If you need teaching, compare lesson formats; if you need application, compare the reasoning behind the choices. Check the seven DRE areas rather than relying on a large question count or a passing testimonial. This site is published by Pass California, so our comparison discloses that interest and separates verified app features from other providers’ public descriptions.
Should I use more than one question bank?
One main resource is often easier to use consistently. Add a second when you can name the gap it fills, such as a different explanation, an uncovered topic or fresh practice after you remember familiar wording. More banks do not automatically mean better preparation. Before switching, review misses and correct guesses, identify their cause and retest a changed example. If the same rule keeps failing across banks, repair the concept rather than treating a new percentage as improvement. This is a study approach, not an official DRE resource requirement.
Are explanations available for every answer option?
In Pass California’s released question bank, the teaching format includes feedback for each answer option. You can inspect the website’s original practice questions before deciding whether the style helps you. For another provider, open a current sample and check whether “detailed explanations” means every alternative or only the correct answer; we have not tested every paid question in competitors’ banks. A useful explanation names the rule, the deciding fact and why a close alternative fails. It should help with a changed scenario, not simply repeat the selected answer.
How does Pass California compare with PrepAgent?
Pass California focuses on California salesperson study in a native app, with 1,708 original questions and saved review tools. PrepAgent’s public package page describes questions plus videos, audio, flashcards and webinars, with access periods to check before purchase. If live or recorded instruction is your priority, inspect that format; if short phone-based practice is your priority, try the relevant app workflow. We publish Pass California and have not tested PrepAgent’s paid account for this comparison. No measured pass-rate or question-difficulty advantage is established here.
How does Pass California compare with CompuCram?
Pass California offers app study and a one-time Premium upgrade for full 150-question practice exams and its other paid modes. CompuCram’s California salesperson page describes vocabulary work, pre-assessment, practice tests, simulations and a readiness indicator, with 180-day access. Compare the sample workflow, actual checkout price, access period and any guarantee conditions. A readiness indicator is a provider tool, not a DRE pass prediction. We have not tested CompuCram’s paid account for this comparison and do not claim that either bank reproduces the secure examination.
Which California exam prep app works offline?
The released Pass California app has bundled questions, local study storage and cached Premium access, which support study without a continuous connection after setup. Internet can still be needed for sign-in, purchase or restore, updates and synchronization. Test your intended mode on your device before relying on it during travel. For another product, verify its specific offline workflow; a mobile-friendly browser page or downloadable audio does not establish that its question bank works offline. This comparison has not independently tested competitors’ paid offline sessions.
Should I buy a subscription or lifetime access?
Compare the total cost over your likely preparation period, what access expires and whether renewal is automatic. A one-time payment can still buy only a fixed period, while “lifetime” depends on the product’s terms. Pass California’s Premium upgrade is a one-time purchase; confirm the current store price and conditions before paying. PrepAgent’s listed time-limited packages say no automatic billing, and CompuCram’s California product lists 180-day access. Do not label every expiring package a recurring subscription. Check extension, refund, restore and account terms as well as the headline amount.
Is exam prep included in my pre-license course?
It depends on the course package. A qualifying prelicense course supplies education toward DRE’s requirements; extra examination prep is a separate product or inclusion. Check the actual package for question access, lesson format, support, expiration and any upgrade cost. Do not pay twice for a feature you already have without inspecting it first. Conversely, buying exam practice does not by itself earn the required course credit or establish eligibility to sit the licensing examination. Keep the course-completion evidence and your study-resource choice separate.
