California DRE currently lists electronic salesperson examination centers in Sacramento, Oakland, Fresno, La Palma, and San Diego. “Los Angeles Vicinity” currently means the La Palma center, not a downtown Los Angeles address. Choose with live eLicensing availability and a complete door-to-door plan. DRE says capacity and demand determine open dates, so no article can promise which center or appointment will be available when you schedule.
DRE, current examination sites and schedule-notice rule · checked 2026-08-27Five centers compared by address and travel constraint
| Center and DRE area | Current listed address | Building detail | Travel fact that changes the plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| SacramentoSacramento | 651 Bannon Street, Suite 503, Sacramento, CA 95811 | May Lee State Office Complex, Southeast Tower | Two public surface lots south of Bannon Street are listed at $8. The detailed page gives a building-entry path, while the statewide site list also says to use the North Entrance, so verify the latest notice and entrance instruction. |
| OaklandOakland | 1515 Clay Street, Room 703, 7th Floor, Oakland, CA 94612-1462 | Elihu M. Harris State Office Building | Long-term parking is limited. DRE lists long-term parking at Jefferson and 12th and short-term parking near 16th between Clay and San Pablo. Metered street parking is not a safe three-hour plan. |
| FresnoFresno | 2550 Mariposa Mall, Room 3004, 3rd Floor, Fresno, CA 93721-2273 | State Office Building on the Mariposa Pedestrian Mall | Long-term parking is limited. DRE lists lots near O and Fresno and P and Fresno, plus a public garage near N and Kern about three blocks away. Its page says two-hour meters cannot support leaving to feed them. |
| La PalmaLos Angeles Vicinity | 1 Centerpointe Drive, Suite 370, 3rd Floor, La Palma, CA 90623 | Department of Real Estate Electronic Exam Center | Exam parking is at 8 Centerpointe Drive and restricted to the top deck. DRE says the parking permit included with the schedule must be displayed and warns that violators may be towed. |
| San DiegoSan Diego | 8620 Spectrum Center Boulevard, Suite 301B, 3rd Floor, San Diego, CA 92123 | Near Kearny Villa Road and Spectrum Center Boulevard | DRE lists onsite parking at $2 per hour, subject to change, and says San Diego MTS lines are within walking distance. The closest freeway is 163 between the Clairemont Mesa and Balboa exits. |
The schedule notice controls your actual location
DRE says examination locations within an area may vary and identifies the assigned location on the Examination Schedule Notice. Use this comparison to choose and plan, then replace it with the exact notice, current center page, and any DRE update for your appointment.
Center preference and live seat availability are different decisions
Capacity changes
DRE says appointment availability depends on facility seating capacity and demand for that site.
Self-scheduling helps
A qualified candidate can use eLicensing to select a currently available date and site.
A blank result means full
DRE's live search says that when no dates appear, all examinations in the selected search are filled to capacity.
DRE also says qualified examinees may self-schedule as late as 6:00 a.m. on the examination day when a seat is available. That is an access feature, not a reason to leave travel, identification, or readiness planning until the same morning.

Detailed center page
DRE places the center in Suite 503 of the Southeast Tower at the May Lee State Office Complex. It describes the tower at Bannon and 7th, across from the surface parking lots, and provides two paths to the examination-center doors.
Overview-page wording
DRE's statewide Exam Sites page also says “Use North Entrance.” Because the public pages do not explain the difference, check the current detailed page, schedule notice, building signage, and any appointment message instead of guessing which entrance is open.
A parking space must last through arrival, check-in, and the exam
Avoid short meters
DRE warns that Oakland and Fresno candidates cannot leave the testing floor or room to feed a meter after admission.
Budget the full occupancy
Plan for the drive, parking search, walk, check-in, three-hour salesperson exam, and exit rather than pricing only three hours.
Save a backup
Identify a second long-term facility or transit route before leaving home. A nearby short-term space is not automatically a usable contingency.
Choose the center with six practical comparisons
- 01Door-to-door reliabilityCompare realistic departure time, traffic range, transit transfers, parking search, and the walk from vehicle or stop to the correct suite.
- 02Live appointment availabilityA convenient building is not useful if no qualifying date is open. DRE says capacity and demand control availability.
- 03Parking fitDistinguish long-term parking from a two-hour meter, and include payment method, permit, closing time, and walking distance.
- 04Building navigationA street address is not the finish line. Record the floor, room or suite, entrance, security path, and final turn.
- 05Contingency marginChoose a route with a backup for traffic, transit interruption, parking closure, or a wrong entrance without cutting into the arrival window.
- 06Travel burdenFor a distant center, compare an early drive with an overnight stay using fatigue, cost, weather, and cancellation exposure, not mileage alone.
Run one route test before the appointment
Enter the exact current street address, suite or room, and building name
Test the route near the weekday and time of the scheduled trip
Identify long-term parking, payment method, permit requirement, or transit stop
Trace the walk from parking or transit to the correct entrance and floor
Save the schedule notice and center page for offline access before powering off the phone
Set a departure time that protects the 30-minute arrival target under a realistic delay
Eight center-planning mistakes that cost margin
Assuming Los Angeles Vicinity means a testing center in downtown Los Angeles
Choosing by highway mileage without comparing weekday door-to-door reliability
Treating a two-hour parking meter as sufficient for a three-hour exam
Forgetting La Palma's separate parking address, top-deck rule, or displayed permit
Driving to a district-office suite instead of the examination-room suite
Relying on an old Sacramento address or one unexplained entrance instruction
Treating today's appointment search as a promise of future availability
Arriving at an as-needed center without a scheduled appointment
Turn the chosen center into a complete exam-day plan
Connect travel to check-in, storage, and testing
Use the exam-day hub to combine the exact schedule notice with accepted ID, belongings, electronic testing, timing, breaks, results, and cancellation contingencies.
