Practice and Disclosures, 25% of the examination

Continuing education

Education a California real estate licensee must complete for renewal unless a statutory exemption applies.

A California real estate license is issued for four years. Unless a statutory exemption applies, a salesperson must complete 45 clock hours of DRE-approved continuing education for renewal, including the required subject areas and consumer-protection content. Continuing education is not a substitute for the three college-level courses required before the salesperson examination. A person may renew late within the permitted period, but may not perform licensed acts while the license is expired.

A salesperson's four-year license has expired, but the two-year late-renewal period is still open. May the salesperson continue licensed activity while preparing the renewal?

Written to DRE's published topic list. Not a real examination question, since reproducing those is a misdemeanor under B&P Code section 123.
